Free time fun

An unforgettable
summer vacation in the mountains

Our Lodge Oberhauser Hütte is located at 1,730 m altitude on the sunny plateau of the Rodengo-Luson Alp – right at the entrance to the Pusteria Valley. The pleasantly mild summer on our alpine hut offers plenty of fun for couples and families. Horse riding, paragliding, hiking on the Rodengo Alp, swimming in the nearby natural swimming pond of the mountain village of Luson or a downhill ride on a mountain bike: the Luson Alp offers something for everyone. Surrounded by green alpine meadows and wonderfully fragrant forests, our guests may pursue their favourite leisure activities in front of an impressive Dolomite panorama.

Visitors interested in culture may visit the over 80 museums in South Tyrol. A bus will take you to the nearby village of Rio di Pusteria five times a day. The medieval village lies at the intersection of the Isarco Valley with the Pusteria Valley and offers many opportunities for active recreation. Starting from here, you may use public transport to go to Bressanone for a relaxed shopping experience or to the Valles Valley, which stretches up to the Fundres Mountains.

From Rio di Pusteria, for example, you may reach the mountain village of Valles in just 10 minutes, where you can directly enter the popular and challenging Fundres Altitude Trail. This unique panoramic trail leads over several stages through wild and untouched nature across the Zillertal Alps from Vipiteno in the north to Brunico.

Those who prefer to spend their vacation days on the spacious meadows of South Tyrol’s most beautiful alpine plateau, the Luson-Rodengo Alp, will truly enjoy our sunbathing lawn with panoramic loungers. Here, you may perfectly relax, laze in the sun, or read a thrilling book.

Interested guests are invited to participate in one of our experience courses, for example, bread baking.

An unforgettable summer vacation in the mountains
Ideal starting point

Hiking & Nordic Walking around Rodengo

Just imagine: After a hearty, regional breakfast buffet, grab the backpack in your room or locker in the hiking room and step outside our Lodge Oberhauser Hütte. Here, you are already in the heart of the Luson Alp and can start your hike. Between green alpine meadows, the smell of freshly mown hay wafts around your nose while you enjoy the unique view of the Cima Lasta and the Sass de Putia. These experiences are extraordinary and will make your romantic vacation unforgettable.

A summer holiday on the alp in South Tyrol is also a wonderful opportunity to get to know the UNESCO World Heritage Site Dolomites – as a couple or in a group. Hike across the sunny plateau of the Rodengo Alp and breathe deeply: this is where stress and tension leave your body. Enjoy the view over the Bressanone valley basin, the Isarco Valley, and the Pusteria Valley, while you inhale the fresh mountain air – high up in the Dolomites.

An active holiday on our Luson Alp is not only the ideal starting point for your hiking vacation but is also perfect for Nordic walking. Grab your Nordic walking poles and train your entire body on the four stages of the Dolorama Trail. The Dolorama Trail takes you from the Rodengo-Luson Alp over Mount Plose to Laion. On the way, many viewpoints invite you to take a break and enjoy the panorama.

Mountain biking in the Alps

Do you fancy an active summer vacation by mountain bike? In our alpine lodge hotel, mountain bikers and cyclists are always welcome.

For example, you could bike from our Lodge Oberhauser Hütte to the wide Rodengo-Luson Alp or via forest trails to Luson or Rodengo. Inhale – exhale – and come to rest. Every step in the pedals is a conscious act. Take in the magic of the mountains. Breathe in the fresh mountain air. All this makes mountain biking on the alp a unique experience for every cyclist.

Ambitious cyclists can drive across the Rienza Canyon to the Pusteria Valley. A mountain bike tour up to the Passo delle Erbe at 2,000 m altitude is a rather challenging experience, but it offers wonderful panoramic views. Downhill trails can also be found in the vicinity, and the hosts at the lodge will be happy to advise you.

Very comfortable

Leisurely outings on the E-Bike

The e-bike has conquered the hearts of South Tyrolean holidaymakers, because it offers a great way to discover the mountains and the vast valleys of South Tyrol – in a very comfortable way. South Tyrol is known for its extensive network of bicycle paths, flat bike trails and panoramic cycling routes. On the Luson Alp, you will find a variety bike routes of varying degrees of difficulty: whether uphill or downhill.

With our e-bikes less trained guests can take many tours. These guests can rent the e-bikes from our hotel for free while available.

Cyclists who are interested in culture may go by e-bike to the nearby village of Rodengo and visit the Castle Rodenegg. This itinerary is also suitable for children, and the striking fortress over the Rienza Canyon with its eventful history offers an interesting destination for young and old. Today, the castle – which for a long time was considered unconquerable – still offers a mighty sight to visitors and enchants adults and children with its eerie stories about predatory knights and the “Lauterfresser”. The acts of the sinister sorcerer are known throughout South Tyrol and feed many legends. The main attraction of the castle, however, is a cycle of frescoes to the Iwein epic by Hartmann von Aue, which is considered the oldest profane mural painting in the German-speaking world and was created between 1200 and 1230.

Trend sports

Trail running in the Dolomites

Trail running is a new trend sport and a joint-gentle way of running. While joggers usually want to strengthen their muscles on the treadmill or on asphalt – or just lose a few pounds –, trail runners romp on the grounds. The Luson Alp with its low rise and hilly landscape offers the ideal terrain.

Run towards your next adventure: over dirt roads and through forests on the Cima Lasta or past picturesque chapels to Luson. There you may take a break and let your eyes wander over the rustic huts of the Luson Alp. You then may make your way back to our Lodge Oberhauser Hütte away from the busy hiking trails on forest paths and alpine terrain. At the same time, you’ll keep your head clear of troublesome thoughts, because your next cross adventure is just a step away!

Dolorama Trail

The Dolorama Trail

The 4-day long-distance hike starts from our hotel.

  • 61 km and 2,356 vertical meters
  • Walking time of approx. 20 hours
  • Comfortable forest and hiking trails
  • Rest and viewing points to pause along the way
  • From Rodeneck with views of various Dolomite giants and through valleys to Lajen

From here, the creation path trail leads onto trail no. 2 to the “Rastner” and “Starkenfeld” huts. Then follow trail no. 67 to the “Steiner Alm” and ascend via the marked trail no. 2A to the “Kreuzwiesen Alm”. About 100 m after the hut, hiking trail no. 12 branches off and leads through the forest up to trail no. 10. The route continues past the Church “Jakobsstöckl” and the idyllic ”Glittner See” lake. On the eastern shore of the lake, follow the “A. Schwingshackl” trail down to the “Tunaretscher hut”, then on to the “Lüsner Joch”. From there, take trail no. 1 to the “Maurerberg hut”. Optionally, you can take a detour to the summit cross of the “Col da Lé “- with additional views of the surrounding mountains.

Route: 20.4km | Ascent: 941m | Descent: 556m | Hiking time: approx. 6.5h
